Geomara is delighted to be working with data collection company XOCEAN to deliver remotely controlled hydrographic data to clients. Together with XOCEAN, our experienced surveyors have established a Control Station at our base in, The Portershed, Co. Galway.
Headquartered in Greenore, Co. Louth, XOCEAN is transforming the way ocean data is collected using marine robotics known as Unmanned Surface Vessels (USVs). The USVs are monitored and controlled 24/7 via satellite connection by a team of onshore USV Pilots.
XOCEAN has recently delivered projects for clients including BP, Equinor, PX Group and the UK’s Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA). The services provided by XOCEAN include mapping the seabed, inspecting subsea structures and monitoring the environment.
The use of unmanned vessels offers significant benefits including safety with operators remaining onshore, efficiency with 24/7 operations and environmental with ultra-low emissions which together leads to significant economic savings.

Following extensive training a team of experienced hydrographic surveyors from Geomara have begun working with XOCEAN’s USV Pilots to remotely operate the USVs. The Portershed proved to be the perfect hub for these remote operations.
Geomara look forward to continuing our work with XOCEAN as the company expands to deliver its services to international markets.
