Geo-Mara use advanced acoustic technology to map the spread of alien invasive species on Lough Corrib

Geo-Mara are engaged with Inland Fisheries Ireland in a program to map the spread of alien invasive species in Lough Corrib.  As a component of our involvement in the larger control of the alien invasive plant Lagorasiphon Major, Geo-Mara have now embarked on a program using advanced bathymetric and side scan sonar techniques to map the control and spread of the plant in large sections of Irelands second largest lake.  Traditionally, diver were used to gauge the extent of the control program, however the use of these new high resolution acoustic tenchnologies has led to greater efficiencies, allowing for greater daily coverage to be achieved as well as the accurate and distinct mapping of the areas concerned.
