Geo-Mara has extensive experience aquatic ecology. Our ecological staff have particular expertise in seafloor ecology in relation to disturbance, incorporating sediment analyses, geochemical and photographic techniques, macrofaunal taxonomy, data analyses and geographic information systems.

Sediment Profiler Imagery

Our ecological staff have considerable experience in Sediment Profiler Imagery (SPI) with particular reference to sediment disturbance sites.

Sediment profile images are captured using a DigiSPI digital sediment profile camera. Images were saved as 10.2 Mpixel 24 bit colour Raw files. Image analysis was performed using Adobe Photoshop and Image Analyst, image seventeen parameters are then either measured or inferred directly from the images in accordance with standard definitions and methods.

Macrofaunal taxonomy

Our ecological staff are experienced in Macrofaunal taxonomy. All fauna is identified to species level where possible. Quality assurance is provided through the use of the most up to date keys available. Species nomenclature was classified in accordance with Howson & Picton (1997).

Marine Mammal Observation

Geo-Mara have a number of experienced JNCC certified Marine Mammal Observer (MMO) trained staff.  They are all Bosiet qualified for offshore work and have considerable experience in this field.

Passive Acoustic Monitoring

Geo-Mara also have a number of JNCC certified Passive Acoustic Monitoring (PAM) trained staff.  They are Bosiet qualified for offshore work and are competent with both Pamguard and Logger software as well as Seiche and Vanashing point systems.  A variety of deployment methods can be used for PAM and the array design will depend both on the intended application and specific requirements. 

Marine Ornithological Observation

Geo-Mara have a number of experienced and qualified Marine Ornithological Observers.  They are all Bosiet qualified for offshore work and have considerable experience in this field.
